Three CKR member drivers competed in this past weekend's Buck Muse Memorial, the opening round of the Crane Cam V8 Stock Car Series, at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw SC. Greg Walker, Randy Walker and Win Smith all competed in the GTA class, featuring the high horsepower, tube frame, fiberglass bodied race cars. Saturday started with a rain soaked practice and qualifying session in which all three CKR members chose not to participate due to poor track conditions. Saturday afternoon found a drying track surface in time for racing. Unfortunately luck was not on the Kentucky trio's side as all three retired early with mechanical issues.
Sunday's event of the weekend doubleheader saw a sunny but windy day and much better track conditions for the high horsepower race cars. The minor issues with the cars were corrected and the finish in GTA saw Greg Walker take the comeback win in his Monte Carlo after taking a break from racing for the past few seasons. Randy Walker finished 3rd in his Camaro and Win Smith ended up in the 4th slot driving his Mustang. Overall a good showing for the three Kentucky GTA racers.
